Yami Gautam is following her act as a visually-impaired rape victim in ‘Kaabil’ (2017) by turning into a lawyer for Shree Narayan Singh’s ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu.’
Gautam will take on Shahid Kapoor’s character, also a lawyer, in the film, set in Uttarakhand, reports Mid Day. In a bid to get into the skin of the character, Gautam will also interact with lawyers working in small towns.
A source says the social drama is based on escalating electricity bills, “Yami is training under renowned lawyers in the city to understand the business. Also, she will visit Tehsil courts in the state to understand the set up. The primary case in the film, which involves Yami, will be fought in a district court. Local lawyers will give her an insight into how things function in small-town courts.”
“In order to put up a tough fight with Kapoor, Gautam will invest a month-and-a-half in understanding how lawyers work, apart from studying their body language and mannerisms,” the source says. She will start filming her scenes in March. Yesterday, Gautam said in a statement that she is also turning to Hindi literature to get a grip on the language and dialect.
