Vishal Bhardwaj has clarified rumours on the plot for his upcoming film ‘Rangoon’. The media has been abuzz that the film, starring Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangna Ranaut, is a biopic based on the lives of actresses of the 1940s era in which the film is set.

However Bhardwarj has clarified the film is a work of fiction in a statement, “Rangoon is a love triangle set in the era of the Second World War. We have tried to create the ethos of the era but it’s a work of fiction”.

Whilst the film does have historic references as it’s set during India’s independence struggle, the filmmaker went onto add “It certainly doesn’t follow the life of any of the various actresses of that era be it that of Fearless Nadia, Miss Zebunissa, Miss Padma or Ramola. ‘Rangoon’ is a period drama that has a love triangle in its centre, it’s not at all a biopic”.

‘Rangoon’ will release on 24th February.
