Varun Dhawan replaces Ranveer Singh in ‘Gully Boy’?

News about Zoya Akhtar’s next ‘Gully Boy’ has been awaited for some time but without any announcement as yet. However, now it’s being reported that Varun Dhawan could be seen in the male lead role, replacing Ranveer Singh who was apparently first choice.

It seems Singh may be unable to accommodate the film in his schedule at least for the next year. A source is quoted by Bollywood Life, “Ranveer loved the subject, but finally had to let go. He tried his best to work out the dates for Zoya’s film for the last three months, but Amin’s romantic drama produced by YRF, begins shooting next year and is a romantic drama. The female lead of the film is a newcomer”.

The source further continues about Akhtar approaching Dhawan for the part, “Ranveer’s first loyalty is with YRF, hence when it was obvious he had to choose between Zoya and Shimit, he opted for his mentor Aditya Chopra’s production. Varun has liked Zoya’s story and is trying to work out his dates for the film, which starts next year”.

No doubt an announcement is now eagerly anticipated but whether there will be one any time soon remains to be seen.
