UK ratings: Geo TV closes in on Hum TV again

The war intensified between the Pakistani entertainment channels after Geo TV closed in on Hum TV once again.

According to official data for week ending Sunday 29th December, there was just 98,000 viewers separating the two channels. Hum TV remained ahead but only just! It registered a weekly reach 478,000 viewers (592,000 viewers), while Geo TV delivered a reach of 380,000 viewers (327,000 viewers). In October, the two channels were just 93,000 viewers apart. At that time, Geo TV delivered a weekly reach of 352,000 viewers and Hum TV garnered a reach of 445,000 viewers. It remains to be seen if Geo TV overtakes Hum TV in UK ratings anytime soon. However, Hum TV is already planning an onslaught with a slew of new shows.

Star Plus remained the most popular Asian channel with 903,000 viewers (last week 1,005,000), followed by UMP Movies with 778,000 viewers (last week 715,000 viewers) and &TV rose to third place with its best ever ratings with 751,000 viewers (last week 609,000 viewers). Rishtey was in fourth place with 708,000 viewers (last week 747,000 viewers), followed by Colors with 705,000 viewers (last week 645,000 viewers) and Zing with 590,000 viewers (last week 654,000 viewers).

The next batch consisted of Star Gold with 574,000 viewers, Life Ok with 413,000 viewers, Hum TV with 478,000 viewers, Geo TV with 380,000 viewers and SAB TV with 370,000 viewers.

The bottom tier consisted of PTC Punjabi with 272,000 viewers, Prime TV with 253,000 viewers, PTV Global with 217,000 viewers, DM Global with 208,000 viewers, Sikh Channel with 202,000 viewers, Venus TV with 174,000 viewers, Brit Asia TV with 119,000 viewers, TV99 with 101,000 viewers and Akaal Channel with 94,000 viewers.

ARY News continued to lead the South Asian news genre in the UK with over half a million viewers. The channel delivered a reach of 509,000 viewers (last week 493,000 viewers), followed by Geo News with 331,000 viewers, Dunya News with 237,000 viewers, SAMAA TV with 217,000 viewers, ABP News with 216,000 viewers and Geo Tez with 176,000 viewers. Aaj Tak followed with 173,000 viewers, NDTV 24×7 with 136,000 viewers and News18 India slumped to an all-time low with just 23,000 viewers.
