TV ratings in India called to be tweaked

India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) has called for India television ratings system, BARC to be tweaked to reflect today’s changing lifestyle and habits.

Advanced-Television reports that a consultation paper has been issued by TRAI to stakeholders for comments on the existing rules on whether rules need updating. The report adds that the system needs to be more robust.

Concerns have also been raised about TV news channels showing non-news programming, which should be measured and categories in other genres rather than ‘news’.

TRAI has requested all comments to be received by 16th January 2019.
