A number of UK Asian TV channels and selected media agencies are coming together to form what will be the first ever broadcaster’s forum.

In information leaked to BizAsia, broadcasters like ZEE TV, Sony TV, Star TV and Colors will be meeting for a second meeting this week to discuss various issues to work more closely with media agencies. Representing the ethnic agencies panel will be Media Reach, World Media Connect and Alliance Advertising & Marketing. Other agencies will also be a part of the forum but the mentioned three are expected to lead the panel.

A source who spoke to BizAsia on the condition of anonymity said, “Talks are quite premature between each of the parties. If this takes off, it will be good for the ethnic market to working from one sheet. Everyone these days is making up their own rates and underselling each other, which isn’t healthy for anyone of us. Its an initiative, which could either work and get off to a great start or destined for failure. There’s another meeting this week between the broadcasters and the agencies, so let’s see what comes of it.”

While, initial terms between the parties involved have been agreed in principle, other more complicated issues on the other agencies end could delay any outcome.

The UK Asian media industry seems to be moving in the right direction after the alliance of ZEE, Sony, B4U and ARY Digital for the Sky Asia Pack. This will be the second opportunity for rival networks to work together. It is not clear at this stage if smaller independent Asian and Pakistani TV channels will participate in the forum.

Keep it with BizAsia for the latest.
