Top 6: Recent TV show launches in the UK

With a plethora of new show launches on Asian TV channels recently, BizAsiaLive.com takes a closer look at the Top 6 that have been performing exceptionally well.

1. The Kapil Sharma Show
Launch date: 29th December 2018
Channel: Sony Entertainment Television
After the romping success of ‘Indian Idol 10’, Sony TV’s strategy to bring back ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ has paid dividends for the channel. Not only has ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ proved a ratings success in India but in the UK, the show is a huge success with its original telecast at 21:30 and also its repeat telecasts across the weekend. In the UK, on Saturday 19th January, the original telecast show attracted 23,100 viewers, while the repeat telecasts at 12:30 and 23:00 rated with 17,700 viewers and 15,700 viewers respectively. Earlier in the month, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ got its highest rating of the season with 40,000 viewers on 12th January 2019.

2. Ladies Special/Patiala Babes
Launch date: 27th November 2018
Channel: Sony TV
After the successful run of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, Sony TV was hoping to sustain the 21:00 – 22:00 slot with its fictions ‘Ladies Special’ and ‘Patiala Babes’. Luckily for the broadcaster, the two shows have been openly accepted by audiences. In the UK, Sony TV’s ratings have remained on the higher side during weekdays, keeping Sony TV at No.2, mainly owing to these two shows, plus ‘Crime Patrol’. In recent figures, ‘Patiala Babes’ pulled in 29,500 viewers at 21:00 and ‘Ladies Special’ attracted 38,700 viewers at 21:30 on Friday 18th January 2019. After Star Plus, Sony TV comfortably leads the 21:00 – 22:00 slot in the Asian TV genre.

3. Khatron Ke Khiladi
Launch date: 5th January 2019
Channel: Colors
The reality show never disappoints with convincing viewing figures. The show opened up with 59,800 viewers on Saturday 5th January 2019. It has more or less maintained the momentum, with audience dipping slightly to 33,600 viewers on Saturday 19th January 2019.

4. Ay Dil Tu Bata
Launch date: 19th November 2018
Channel: Geo TV
The popular weekday fiction has proved a huge success for Geo TV, with impressive numbers in the UK. The show has been regularly attracting over 40,000 viewers, with an average 20,000 – 30,000 viewers tuning in daily. On Wednesday 2nd January 2019, ‘Ay Dil Tu Bata’ was watched by 46,700 viewers. The show has also helped the channel deliver some of the biggest ratings in the UK ever.

5. Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega
Launch date: 3rd September 2018
Channel: ZEE TV
Forget ‘Kundali Bhagya’ and ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, which reign on ZEE TV in India, its all about ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega’ on ZEE TV UK. Since its launch, the show has performed well on ZEE TV UK. It is now the most watched show on the channel during weeknights. ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega’ has also managed to beat Star Plus’ ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ in the same 18:30 slot on a couple of occasions.

6. Aangan
Launch date: 20th December 2018
Channel: Hum TV
One of the most awaited launches on Pakistani television in a long time, ‘Aangan’ has got off to a good start for Hum TV. Despite the show being the first on Hum TV not to stream on YouTube, the interest remains high. It launched with 32,300 viewers on 20th December, followed by 10,300 viewers on 27th December, 5,100 viewers on 4th January, 19,500 viewers on 11th January and 17,600 viewers on 17th January 2019.
