Subhash Ghai: “Call it Hindi Cinema”
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has recently appealed for people to stop labelling the Hindi Film Industry with the term ‘Bollywood’.
IANS quote Ghai as haging taken to his social media account to state, “My sincere appeal to our industry and Amitabh Bachchan, SRK and media not to allow Hindi cinema named as Bollywood… Even if name, Bollywood is an unavoidable brand now. We still can attach with words like Hindi Cinema and call it as Bollywood Hindi Cinema.”
It can be noted that in the initial years of the term ‘Bollywood’ being coined, Amitabh Bachchan too had expressed his displeasure in using the word owing to its obvious similarity to Hollywood.
