Star TV buys format rights of ‘Million Pound Drop’

Star TV Network has acquired the format rights of popular gameshow ‘Million Pound Drop’, which in the UK is aired on Channel 4.

The Indian version of the programme will air on Star Network’s Bengali channel, Star Jalsha. Producers Endemol India has been commissioned by the channel to produce a series of 26 episodes, running twice weekly in a primetime slot.

The show has not been confirmed for its Hindi flagship channel, Star Plus but may launch depending on the success of the Bengali version.

Endemol Worldwide Distribution will also broadcast local versions of the show in Egypt, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Format creator David Flynn said, “I�۪ve never experienced a show becoming a global hit in such a short amount of time. ���It seems that risk-taking, tension and life-changing money dropping through the floor make for must-see TV in any language.”
