STAR Plus UK launches ‘Sangam’ in October

STAR Plus will be adding a new soap in October to its ratings winner primetime programming line-up.

The show ‘Sangam’ will be Fox Television Studios second offing on the channel after the mediocre success of ‘Meri Awaaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni’.

‘Sangam’ is a love story set in a small town and about a small town girl Ganga whose father wants her to pursue her education and a career instead of only thinking about marriage. She is an intelligent, ambitious girl, who believes in pursuing her dreams and doing the best for her family. But when the dream gets bigger the conflicts start. While the story starts in a small town and remains there for a while, it will eventually moves to a big city when conflicts intensify.

Fox Television’s head Deepak Sehgal is confident that his new drama will consolidate the lucrative 19:00 – 22:00 timeband just like ‘Meri Awaaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni’ has managed.

Sehgal says, “On the one hand it is a love story and on the other, it mirrors the relationship of a child and her parents. It is an inspirational story about the hopes of a broad minded father and the journey of a daughter as she fulfills his dreams.”

Ajay Vidyasagar, President, Content & New Media, STAR India, added, “Our primetime shows have always created a niche for themselves and this is for the first time that any GEC has attempted to merge 19:00 band with its primetime. This sure will result in expansion of the whole slot and further consolidation of STAR PLUS’ weekday shares. Unlike big budget mega shows, ‘Sangam’s’ story line will be very simple with strong characters, which is promised to attract a wider viewer base for the channel.”

‘Sangam’ launched in India this week and goes live on STAR Plus UK in early October replacing ‘Kesar’ which winds up on Tuesday 9th October. ‘Sangam’ will be shown Monday – Thursday at 19:00.
