Since ‘Devdas’ (2002), Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have not worked together on another film since. However, Bhansali did approach Khan for two films, which the ‘Dear Zindagi’ (2017) actor declined.

According to Bollywood Life, Khan had originally said in an interview last year, that he been offered two roles from Bhansali, one of which was apparently for Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmaavat’ (2018), but Khan decided against it. “There are two scripts that he’s (Bhansali) offered me. One is a period film and the other isn’t. I don’t know which one we’re doing right now. But these are the only two I have spoken to him about.”

So why did Khan turn down a role in ‘Padmaavat’ (2018)? The source shares that this was due to Khan already committing to Aanand L. Rai’s ‘Zero’ and he wouldn’t be able to give equal time to both. “Shah Rukh told Sanjay that he wouldn’t be able to spare time because he had given Aanand his word. When some people close to him suggested that he could easily do two films simultaneously, SRK apparently refused saying he didn’t wish to spread himself too thin.”

So despite two offers, nothing has materialised and Khan won’t be doing a Bhansali production anytime soon. “Shah Rukh is not doing Sanjay’s film anymore. They had several meetings to discuss the scripts in hand last year, but nothing really worked out. SRK politely turned down the movies that were offered to him,” said the source.

Of course, their personal and professional relationship remains intact and it just so happens now is not the right time for the duo to collaborate. The source added, “SLB and SRK are both extremely professional. They don’t let work affect their personal equation. They are good friends and they remain so. They have promised to work together on something very soon.”

There have been rumours of Khan talking to Siddharth Roy Kapur for Rakesh Sharma’s upcoming biopic ‘Salute’. “SRK is discussing films with a few other directors and he will green light one, so expect a big announcement about his next film very soon,” the source reveals.
