Ofcom clears Spice FM after use of swear word on-air

Newcastle upon Tyne community radio station, Spice FM has been cleared of a swear word use in a live show in July 2019.

Ofcom received a complaint that the presenter used the term “f*ck” during a live studio interview: “…I think two consenting adults can do what the fuck, sorry, I shouldn’t say that…”

Spice FM acknowledged the material was problematic and that both it and the presenter apologised and assured Ofcom that this was an uncharacteristic mistake by an experienced presenter.

Ofcom took into account that this was a live programme, the immediate apology issued by the presenter and the steps taken by Spice FM to prevent recurrence. Therefore, Ofcom concluded the matter resolved.
