The classic ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ (1960)gave Bollywoodan iconic song, ‘Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kiya’ but the set of the song, the ‘Sheesh Mahal’,which reflected hundreds of fragmented mirrorsstunned the audience. Director Sooraj Barjatya isalso oneof thousands, whodraws inspiration from the film, and has recreated his own Sheesh Mahal in his next, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.’

In a Mumbai studio, the ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ Sheesh Mahal took two years to built, andwas built with imported glass from Belgium. Barjatya has got his art director Nitin Desai torecreatea Sheesh Mahal for ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ in hisKarjat studio. An overwhelmed Barjatya said, “I have been inspired, awed and overwhelmed by Mughal-E-Azam, a film that has always fuelled my imagination as a writer-director. We tried to pay a homage to this cult classic, which has shaped the Indian film industry in many ways by constructing the Sheesh Mahal. It is intrinsic to the plot. How Salman’s story and the Sheesh Mahal are connected will be revealed when the film opens on November 12.”

Desai’s birthday was also brought in, on 5th August, inside theSheesh Mahal. An excited Desai said, “I feel honored to celebrate my birthday inside a Sheesh Mahal created by me and my team. It’s a dream come true.”

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ will see Khan paired opposite Sonam Kapoor and is slated to release on 12th November.
