Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Bajirao Mastani’ has landed itself in trouble with the Shiv Sena in India.

The political group has urged for a ban on the film’s release over the controversy with the way the characters in the film have been portrayed. One of the complaints was the song ‘Pinga’, which the descendants of the Peshwas, claimed that Mastani and Kashibai never came across each other in the manner as shown in the film.

Pratap Sarnaik, a Shiv Sena MLA from Thane district, was against the release of the film until the contentious, controversial scenes in the film are not cut.

He said, “The film be first shown to the legislators and then only the permission be granted for its release. Hence those who are not aware of the deeds of Bajirao Peshwa, Maratha history and Marathi culture will be mislead into harbouring perverted notion. This will cause pain to the Maharashtrian community.”

“Fadnavis in his remarks on the memorandum has asked the authorities to seek appropriate information and then take action accordingly,” an official from Chief Minister’s Office said.
