1996 saw the release of Fire,۪ starring Shabana Azmi. Directed by Deepa Mehta, the controversial film focused on two lonely daughters-in-law as they fall into a lesbian relationship. Fast forward 20 years and Azmi returns to another lesbian movie, according to Bollywood Hungama.
Pakistani writer, director and actress Fawzia Mirza’s American production titled Signature Move۪ (2017) will see Azmi playing a mother to a lesbian daughter, played by Mirza. The film itself looks to be somewhat autobiographical to Mirza as she describes herself as a “Lesbian, Muslim, Pakistani, actor, activist, writer, producer, lawyer and creature of passion.”
Azmi۪s role as the mother follows her character as she watches television soaps all day long and seems oblivious of the fact that her daughter is a lesbian and in a relationship with Mexican girl who is a wrestler.
