Samantha Akkineni refrained from speaking about ‘The Family Man 2’

The popular Amazon Prime web series ‘The Family Man’ will be returning for a second season in a few days time and although fans are excited about the show returning, the trailer has received some backlash over South actor, Samantha Akkineni’s character who has since been given a gagging order by the OTT platform to not comment further on the matter.

Reported on Filmfare, the trailer shows Akkineni as a suicide bomber, which has caused a bit of outrage. Eelam Tamils and many people from the state have expressed their disappointment over the portrayal of Tamilians in the show. The issue has even been escalated by the TN Minister of Information and Broadcast who wrote to the Union Minister seeking a ban on the show for hurting sentiments of the people.

A statement from the makers of the show was later issued refuting these claims and said that people should not make judgement based on the trailer alone. Akkineni who was also vocal about this has now been instructed by the OTT platform not to comment further to avoid making the controversy bigger. The statement said, “…would like to avoid controversies prior to the release of their venture. The gag order to refrain from speaking about the show is exactly that, so the audience feeling and sentiments that have been hurt can be assuaged.”

Directed by Raj and DK, ‘The Family Man 2’ is set to release on 4th June 2021. The series also stars Manoj Bajpayee and Priyamani in lead roles.
