Saket Chaudhary on actresses not wanting to play mother’s role

All set for his forthcoming release ‘Hindi Medium’, director Saket Chaudhary has apparently found it difficult casting females for his films, for a very particular reason.

With Pakistani actress Saba Qamar, playing the lead female in his next as a mother of a young girl, Hindustan Times reports the filmmaker expressing, “You look for a certain person in the actor, who can fit into the character. There are a lot of established actresses who don’t want to play a mother. There was that issue. I had that experience from ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’ (2014).”

After a long search of actresses for the film, it was Vidya Balan who succeeded in the role. Talking about it, Chaudhary explained, “The seven-eight year long gap happened in the film because of series of accidents. There was this whole major casting problem that we were going through which delayed the film. I had faced this problem a lot in casting that film. Vidya was very brave. She wasn’t one of those actresses who has an issue but others did have that. I didn’t want to get in that loop again with ‘Hindi Medium’.”

Marking Qamar’s debut in the Indian film industry, the film also stars Irrfan Khan and is set to hit the big screens on 12th May.
