Amitabh Bachchan is back playing the ghost and trying to scare children in Friday’s release, ‘Bhoothnath Returns’. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is a sequel to 2008’s ‘Bhoothnath’. The film includes special appearances from Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor as well as a song where Bachchan joined hands with Yo Yo Honey Singh. However, did it strike a chord with the all-important audiences? BizAsia takes a look at the reviews.

Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express said, “Sure, there is some nicely-done amusement to be had in Bhoothnath Returns۪, and it is not all pandering to juveniles”.

India Today‘s Saurabh Dwivedi writes, “Bhoothnath Returns is a one-time family watch, and the perfect film for school kids on vacation. Meaning ‘Party Toh Banti Hai’.”

ZEE News‘ Aparna Mudi reviews, “Storywise the movie is predictable and loses it`s humour soon after the interval. The done to death plot of the small fry trying to take on corrupt politicians with unconventional methods and winning over the hearts of the audience was also not unexpected. But the movie is unpretentious”.

“Parth stands his ground in front of Bachchan. Nitesh, who co-directed Chillar Party, has given him more punchlines than Bachchan and the boy justifies the faith reposed in him. He is the most natural creature in the supernatural space. It is he who actually drives this fantastic ride with Bachchan looming large as pillion passenger,” Anuj Kumar of The Hindu concludes.

It seems Bachchan has once again done a film which impresses the younger audiences just as expected. However, will it continue a run at the box office? Stay with BizAsia for the latest.
