Prakash Jha۪s Satyagraha۪ released in August last year but unlike films being bought by TV channels almost immediately, it still remains unsold, BizAsia has learnt. Producers UTV were simply unable to sell the rights.
An insider spoke to Deccan Chronicle about Star India, Except for ‘Raajneeti’, none of Prakash Jha۪s film like ‘Aarakshan’ and ‘Chakravyuh’ were fruitful investments for the channel who aired these movies. The channel sealed a deal exclusively for Ajay Devgn films but Saytagraha۪ was not included.
The channel is very keen in picking up Ajay۪s next films like Singham 2 and Action Jackson, but for some reason, they wanted to stay away from Satyagraha, said another source.
Because of the exclusive deal struck by Devgn and Star India, other channels have chosen to stay away. A source at a rival channel commented, Ajay has shaken hands with one channel for all his films. Why should we bail the film out?
Star India were unavailable to comment.
