It is no secret that ‘Bajirao Mastani’ has been filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project for over a decade. When actor Ranveer Singh was signed on for the title role of Peshwa Bajirao, he decided to prepare for it intensely. Singh has now gone on record to talk about his preparation for the project.

In an interview toFilmfare, Singh said, “I locked myself up in a hotel room for three weeks to prepare. The way Bajirao sits, the way he walks, the way he talks, his voice, his eyes, his energy, everything had to have a distinct characterisation. I watched Marathi films as well. I studied Russel Crows’ ‘Gladiator’ to understand what goes into making an epic. I understood the production issues regarding animals and crew being taken to location and shooting with them.”

Singh, who has previously worked with Bhansali for ‘Ram Leela’ (2013), also claims that the director is completely non-interfering despite his reputation for being strict on the sets.

“The beautiful thing about Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali is that he was not interfering at all… He trusted that I’d interpret the character authentically. He was completely hands off,” the actorsaid.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ stars Singh alongside Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. The film is slated for a Christmas releasethis year.
