PTV embroiled in alleged corruption scandal

Pakistan’s state broadcaster, Pakistan Television (PTV) has been embroiled in an alleged corruption scandal.

Hip In Pakistan reports that Agha Shahid, former Chairman of PTV’s employee association saying in an interview, wherein he claimed that around 100 lower level clerical staff including clerks, technicians, gardeners, computer operators, diesel mechanics, had been promoted to utmost senior positions, some by virtue of possessing fake degrees.

The portal names a list of individuals linked to the alleged corruption racket, including a number of senior managers. He also said that the alleged malpractice has been ongoing for a number of years.

Shahid said that he had reported the crime to a the previous governments but his complaints were dismissed or not responded to. He is now hoping that the new government, led by Imran Khan under the ‘Naya Pakistan’ brand, will take the allegations seriously.
