Priyanka Chopra’s period romance to roll in October

Priyanka Chopra Purple Pebble Pictures is all set to make a period romance, BizAsiaLive.com can reveal. The story is by Rabindranath Tagore and is expected to roll in October.

The film will be the story of Tagore’s own romance, set in 1878, as reported by Pune Mirror. Tagore’s father didn’t approve of his lady love and the equation ended two years later. Director Ujjwal Chatterjee reveals, “It was a platonic love story and the film will narrate it from the point of view of a young student, who visits modern-day Santiniketan and sees a picture of Annapurna captioned ‘Nalini”.

Chatterjee’s wife Sagarika has written the film, as he continues, “Casting is in progress and the film is expected to go on the floors by October”.

It seems Chopra brought new life to the original plan. Sagarika wrote the film since 2011 but it was only meant to have Tagore’s story as it’s focus. “But when we met Madhu Chopra (Priyanka’s producer mother) around two years ago, they wanted to know how much of the story was factually accurate and true. I showed them my research and they agreed to produce the film. It has since materialised into a saga of unrequited love,” concluded Chatterjee.

Chopra’s mother Madhu also said, “Priyanka wants good stories to reach audiences. Nalini has great potential and is an entertaining subject. We’re happy to be associated with it”.

The film is to be a Bengali-Marathi bi-lingual.
