Phizzical cancel Javed Akhtar’s UK event after Shabana Azmi’s road accident

A UK event, in which Javed Akhtar was to attend has been cancelled due to his wife and Bollywood veteran, Shabana Azmi’s road accident last weekend.

‘In Conversation With Javed Akhtar’, organised by Phizzical, was set to take place in Coventry and Leicester on 30th and 31st January respectively.

A post published by Phizzical this morning said, “Five days ago, Javed Akhtar and his wife Shabana Azmi were involved in a car accident. Shabana was injured severely in the accident and is in hospital. It is an unfortunate incident and our prayers are with them. We hope to reschedule this event at a later date. All refunds are being processed automatically.”

Akhtar updated fans on Azmi’s health via his Twitter account on Wednesday. He said, “Our family would like to thank all the friends and well wishers for their concern and messages for @AzmiShabana. This is to let everyone know that she is recovering well and most probably will be shifted to a normal room tomorrow.”

Last Saturday, Azmi and Akhtar were travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Express in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, when her car rammed intro a truck. Akhtar escaped without any injuries, while Azmi was rushed to ICU for immediate treatment.
