Overnights: First IPL qualifier proves huge hit

The first qualifier match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League proved a hit for British broadcaster, ITV4.

According to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia, the match, which kicked off at 15:00 yesterday pulled in 295.600 viewers – peaking at 456,200 viewers. The audience is set to build further ahead of the final of the sixth season this weekend.

On Star Plus, ‘MasterChef India’ was back on top in the UK with 271,400 viewers at 20:00, followed by ‘SaraswatiChandra’ with 226,200 viewers and surprisingly ‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ with 225,000.

The others in the pecking order were ‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai’ (200,100), ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ (199,800), ‘Saathiya’ (160,800), ‘Veera’ (150,400), ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ (116,800) and ‘Ek Ghar Banuanga’ (63,500).

On Rishtey, ‘Bairi Piya’ was the leader on the channel at 20:30 with 87,600 viewers, followed by ‘Jeevan Saathi’ with 76,900 viewers and ‘Na Aana Iss Desh Laado’ with 69,100 viewers.

On Star Life Ok, ‘Devon Ka Dev Mahadev’ got 42,400 viewers, followed by ‘2613’, which got 39,100 viewers and ‘Amrit Manthan’ at 19:30 next with 25,100 viewers.

On Zing, ‘Cloud 9’ at 18:30 pulled in 6,900 viewers and rated zero at 22:30.
