New owners of Virgin Radio back digital radio

The Times of India group (TIML Golden Square, a wholly owned subsidiary of Times group), the new owners of Virgin Radio, says it is “more committed to DAB than anyone else”, according to Broadcast Now.

Chief executive Clive Dickens says that both the City and the industry at large was responsible for the platform۪s negative press.

“The industry has been bad at marketing DAB because the City decided it was an expensive long-term operation,” says Dickens. “This, in turn, meant senior people at plcs had to publicly denounce it.”

The Times Of India Group acquired the Virgin Radio Holdings Ltd and its subsidiaries in the UK, earlier this month, for a phenomenal 53.2 million from SMG Plc.
