MTV to shutdown five dedicated music channels in UK this year

In a major shake-up for British music television, MTV UK is set to close five of its dedicated music channels on 31st December 2025, marking the end of an era for the iconic broadcaster. The affected channels include MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live HD2.
The decision comes amid a broader restructuring following the merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media, and reflects the growing dominance of streaming platforms over traditional linear television. Only the flagship MTV channel, now focused primarily on reality programming, will remain on air in the UK.
Industry insiders have described the move as a “dark day for the music industry,” with many lamenting the loss of a cultural institution that helped shape music television throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
