Mohnish Bahl returns to the big screen with ‘Panipat’

Mohnish Bahl, who was last seen in Sohail Khan’s 2014 action drama ‘Jai Ho,’ which had featured Salman Khan in the lead, is now preparing for Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming historical-drama ‘Panipat.’ He plays Nana Saheb aka Balaji Baji Rao, a Maratha Peshwa (Prime Minister), in the film revolving around the Third Battle of Panipat which took place on January 14, 1761.
It was fought between the Marathas and the invading forces of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali, supported by two Indian allies —the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab and Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh, reports the Mumbai Mirror. The film features Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in the lead.
Bahl’s character is the cousin of Arjun’s Sadashiv Rao Bhau and husband to Padmini Kolhapure’s Gopikabai. “Nana Saheb is a multilayered character and Mohnish, an immensely talented and versatile actor, comes with years of experience. He has never failed to impress with his performance,” producer Sunita Gowariker said.
This is the first time that the star will be seen in a period-drama. All the cast, including Kapoor and Sanon, have been prepping for the movie with the leading pair even taking horse-riding lessons. Pune’s Shaniwar Wada has also been recreated with a large set at the ND studio in Karjat. The film rolls this month.
