Masti Radio has joined five other existing applicants to compete for the Greater London licence, which currently homes Sunrise Radio.

In July, Ofcom advertised the two frequencies 963AM and 972AM. At the time, it announced that it had received five declarations of intent۪ to apply for for the Sunrise Radio licence, which broadcasts on 963AM and 972AM in Greater London. The five applicants were Sunrise Radio, Lyca Media, Asian Fx, Sabras Radio London and London Air Radio.

Masti Radio said it was planning a young Asian radio station to compete with the rival applicants. Masti Radio ceased broadcasting on DAB in Bradford and Huddersfield in March last year after nearly nine of years of broadcasting in the North of the UK. Masti Radio is owned by Sunrise FM in Yorkshire.
