Lyca presenter Ravi Sharma’s future in doubt after comments against Pakistan

Veteran broadcaster, Ravi Sharma’s future is today in doubt after he made comments against Pakistan at a recent event.

Sharma, who has been an iconic voice on British Asian radio over the past 30 plus years, currently fronts Lyca Dilse’s Mid-Morning Show. BizAsiaLive.com learnt that the comments were made at recent protests over the Kashmir dispute around Independence Day last week.

In a video seen by BizAsiaLive.com, Sharma is seen saying, “India is known for its democracy, for its progress, for its peaceful efforts like Mahatma Gandhi. Pakistan is known for Osama Bin Laden. Pakistan is known for terrorists. Pakistan is (inaudible). That is the reason. You can see they are all behaving like Osama and we are behaving like Gandhi.”

The protests were held outside London’s India High Commission after the India government revoked special status for its portion of Kashmir. Four people were arrested.

Lyca Media, the parent company of Lyca Radio and Lyca Dilse said it was investigating the issue. It told BizAsiaLive.com that it strongly condemns any hatred towards any community and that the matter is being dealt with in the utmost strictest manner.

Sharma is currently not on-air due to annual leave.
