Lagaan film actor makes entry in ZEE’s Sarrkkar

Dayashankar Pandey’s name might not necessarily ring a bell when you hear of it first, but the man is going about making his mark, and how. Pandey has been more famous for his roles in movies like Swades and Lagaan and now is making a comeback on television with ZEE TV’s Sarrkkar, next month.

He seems rather happy to be part of the TV brigade and credits Manish Goswami for his new character on the ZEE show. “I think television is a lot more challenging than films. In a day we shoot a scene for a movie, but when it comes to TV, schedules are always tight and you have to finish five and six scenes a day!” Seems like the man has no qualms about TV or films as long as the role’s worth it.

“I hadn’t been able to do a lot of work for TV at the start of my career and then movies happened,” says Dayashankar. “You see on television, they need to see good faces and I don’t really have such a good face! No one wanted to give me work for that reason,” he laughs as he explains.

In terms of TV, Pandey will be playing the part of a local goon, a new character that is going to be introduced on the show next week onwards. Speaking of his character, he says, “Latha is this big typical goon and he will do anything for Vir Pratap Singh, who was like his mentor. Personally the guy is very innocent, except for his prudish exploits and power in his locality. Basically, his powerful influence gets him dragged into politics and then his story unfolds.”

Dayashankar will be seen on the show for a while to come, as his character is being inducted into the story.

He will be seen on Sarrkaar on ZEE TV UK from the first week of September.
