Kunal Kapoor: “It’s sad that our generation knows little about the Indian National Army”

Gearing up for his next titled, ‘Raag Desh’ tells the story of Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army and the Red Fort trials, Kunal Kapoor feels that people should be more informed as to what had actually happened in history.

“After reading the entire story, I felt there’s a deliberate attempt to wipe it out of our history books. It is unfortunate,” The Indian Express reports the actor stating.

He went on to express, “Isn’t it quite shocking? I mean how come we were not taught about an important part of our history in school? It’s really sad that our generation knows so little about the Indian National Army that contributed to the Indian freedom movement… nothing less than any other political parties or individual.”

Kapoor will be seen playing the role of soldier Shah Nawaz Khan who was a part of the Indian National Army at the time. Through his research he had not only researched on the General, but also visited his family and gained a lot of insight through his grandson.

The film helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, who the actor was very excited to be working with. “I always wanted to work with Tishu sir (Dhulia), and the interesting thing I have observed is that all actors perform well in his film…Everyone acts the best in his film! You know why? Because he is an amazing actor, director and writer. Being an actor, he understands what exactly I need to know to perform the character…it’s a dream come true to work with him,” he expressed.

Also starring Amit Sadh, ‘Raag Desh’ is set to hit the big screens on 28th July.
