Kriti Sanon’s ‘Mimi’ heading for an online release?

Earlier last month, BizAsia reported that Kriti Sanon’s ‘Mimi’ has been awaiting a theatrical release for some time. Talks were ongoing on whether the film might take the digital route instead.

Sanon herself said, “Of course, they are great platforms, and everyone is hooked on to it, they have got great content. As an actor you want it to reach the masses, even the ones who don’t really go on these platforms.”

The filmmakers waited for the entirety of last year to release the movie in the theatres. Now, latest reports say the film has secured a good deal with an online streaming platform and will now take the OTT route to release.

‘Mimi’ is based on the story of a surrogate mother and also stars Saie Tamhankar. The movie is also produced by Dinesh Vijan, reports Filmfare.

A source close to the production said, “Dinesh Vijan has inked a huge deal with a big streaming giant to premiere Kriti’s Mimi, along with a few other projects that are already in place. While the team wanted to release their movies in theatres and even tried the same with Roohi, the current situation looks extremely bleak for theatres to even think of reopening. It doesn’t seem likely in the next three months, because there is a possibility of a third wave. Dinesh has checked all possibilities and finally decided to go online with Mimi. He has earned a good profit and is expected to make the announcement soon.”
