‘Koffee with Karan 5’ review: Arjun-Varun are a laugh riot

Episode 3, 20th November on STAR TV
Guests: Arjun Kapoor & Varun Dhawan

Although this is the third episode in and audiences might feel they should know what to expect from the show, Arjun Kapoor and Varun Dhawan give full-on paisa vasool entertainment. They also show you some of the unthinkable things thanks to Karan Johar’s innovative ideas.

The two actors are good friends from before they became stars and this is evident throughout the episode, especially through their level of comfort with one another. Some of their antics are a little touchy feely but this is good for “bromance” levels. It’s different because Dhawan is usually associated with Sidharth Malhotra due to his debut and Kapoor to Ranveer Singh because of their obvious camaraderie. What Kapoor and Dhawan do in this episode is feed off each other in a way that’s new for the viewers and Johar definitely capitalises on that.

When there’s introduction of a segment to “test” both of their acting talents in different situations with an added twist, both actors excel and make you laugh out loud. Dhawan’s switch to Marathi is particularly laughter inducing as is his candid confession to being a “nudist” when he was a child. Kapoor, on the other hand, manages to dodge questions about a certain Miss Sinha quite well and also does well in the rapid fire, showing his preference to certain people very honestly.

The biggest revelation has got to be Dhawan admitting that he is in a relationship but when asked about Natasha Dalal in a very prodding fashion my Johar, he retreats. He does, however, say that he’s very happy in his relationship because of a certain someone and says he’s thankful for that. He also manages to give something away about Alia Bhatt which she probably won’t be best pleased with.

Overall, although the show appeared to be more comical than candid, it’s definitely one to watch even just to see the amazing rapport the two actors share with one another.
