During a time where women’s characters are becoming more dominant figures within the Indian film industry, Kiran Rao wants to follow the same trend but in a slightly different way.

Instead of making films solely centred at women, Rao wants to make women’s characters more interesting in other ways. NDTVreport the director stating, “I don’t believe in women-centric films, but I certainly believe that we should create films where women have challenging roles. And I will definitely create that in my films. I would like to present women in all their diversity and colours in my films. I will have more interesting women characters in my films”.

Having debuted in directing with the film ‘Dhobi Ghat’ (2011), Rao is currently working on her next project, however as it’s still in it’s early stages, no details have been revealed. “I have started writing, it is a long process… let’s see how it shapes up,” she says.
