Kerala High Court halts release of ‘The Kerala Story 2’
The Kerala High Court has ordered a 15‑day stay on the release of ‘The Kerala Story 2’, blocking the film just days before its planned 27th February opening. The sequel, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and featuring a new cast led by Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha, has been under scrutiny since its certification.
The Court noted that the CBFC may not have followed the guidelines designed to ensure that films do not threaten social harmony, raising concerns about how the sequel was cleared. The stay comes as three petitions challenge the film’s certification, arguing that ‘The Kerala Story 2’ portrays Kerala in a communal and misleading manner and could risk disturbing public order. Petitioners also claim the title and promotional material unfairly stigmatise the state.

With the stay now in place, the film’s release remains uncertain while the Court examines whether the certification process was properly followed and whether the content poses a risk to social stability.
