Pahlaj Nihalani, former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief, has been involved in many a controversies and it seems he may be courting controversy again with his upcoming film ‘Julie 2’. The film is alleged to be based on a real-life actress who has remained unnamed in the film and its promotions.
The film, who stars Raai Laxmi as the lead protagonist, is reportedly based on the life of a well-known actress who started her career with one of the Khans in Bollywood, and then went onto find success in Tamil and Telugu cinema, and later in Bhojpuri films. Laxmi alluded the story does follow the highs and lows of the unnamed actress. “I am not denying the similarities between my character and the actress. These similarities are there. I don’t know if they’re deliberate or just a coincidence”, she said, as reported in HindustanTimes.
However Nihalani confirmed the rumours were true. “It’s definitely based on the actress…. In fact, one of the main actors who is a part of our cast was also involved with that actress. We are not naming her as we don’t want our film to be stopped. But once the film opens next Friday, it will be obvious to all which real-life actress Raai Laxmi is playing”, said Nihalani. However he seems to have avoided any legal trouble by ensuring the actress’ name was not associated with ‘Julie 2’.
Whether the actress comes forward once the film is released remains to be seen.
