When you speak to Jimmy Sheirgill you have to be aware that he is a very thoughtful, charming and quite an up front person. He recently opened up about playing roles where he usually doesn’t get the girl.

To Times of India, about his latest film Happy Bhag Jayegi۪(2016) as Daman Singh Bagga۪, he spoke about how he plays roles where he doesn۪t tend to get the girl, “To add to this, with ‘HBJ’, we’re playing along on this image right from the trailers itself. For the kind of built up I’ve had with my roles, there couldn’t have been movie more apt than this. Last year, somebody came up with this thing on social media saying, ‘Why is Bollywood so mean to Jimmy Sheirgill’ and ‘Girls run away from him’. It was sweet and I laughed along. But yes, girls run away from me. What can I do about it? (Laughs)”

He has been seen in quite a few Punjabi films in recent years and he likes do at least one a year, “I do one Punjabi film in a year, but most technicians, action and music directors who work there are ones who have worked on Hindi movies, made a name and gone back to do regional cinema. That’s one reason why I don’t feel the difference in the way they function. But if I were to compare, I feel the film industry in Punjab needs to imbibe the discipline we have in Bollywood. We still do not have any governing body there and it’s probably the only regional sector which is running without one. There are attempts to bring that into place, so let’s hope that happens soon.”

Happy Bhag Jayegi۪ (2016) produced by Aanand L Rai is in cinemas now, having released on 19th August.
