Jackie Shroff signed on for Gujarati remake of ‘Ventilator’

The Maharthi original won three national awards for best direction, best editing and best sound mixing, so it comes to no surprise that a remake of the Rajesh Mapuskar’s ‘Ventilator’, is to be made again. However this time it will be a Gujarati remake and non other than Jackie Shroff has been signed on to play the lead.

Where the original film has Aushtosh Gawarikar as the lead, Mumbai Mirror reports remake director Umang Vyas explaining, “We wanted someone who would understand the language and the culture. When we zeroed in on Jaggu, there was no looking further.”

“He is a brilliant actor and immediately came on-board when we narrated the story idea to him. He is really fluent in Gujarati and will be playing a Hindi film actor in this one,” he added.

The responsibility of writing the film’s script falls under another National award winner; Niren Bhatt. “Niren is currently writing the script and we will retain the original’s satirical tone. It will be set in Gujarat and will roll in March,” Vyas confirmed.

The film is said to be co-produced by Falguni Patel and Lawrence D’Souza. Talking about broadening the horizons of Indian cinema, Patel expressed, ” In this interesting phase of changing cinema, we are simultaneously working on scripts that are high on content and will cater to a wider range of audience.”
