International Dance Day: Five memorable on-screen dance collaborations

For some dance is a form of expressing themselves, for others it’s a great way of keeping fit. Then there are those who just like to dance because it’s fun! 29th April marks International Dance day and what better way than for BizAsiaLive.com to mark this day than to look back at some of the greatest collaboration dances seen in Hindi cinema over the years.

‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ from ‘War’ (2019)
It was a dream come true for Tiger Shroff to be working alongside his idol Hrithik Roshan and for their fans a moment not to be missed. It is no secret that both Shroff and Roshan are phenomenal dancers so when this film arrived the audience was eagerly waiting to see the two shake a leg together.

Of course, the actors did not disappoint with their performance on this song. It was a fun, upbeat song that visually was very pleasing to watch. Both the actors should be praised but also the choreographers Bosco-Caesar who came up with such unique dance sequences. When watching the song it is hard not to be mesmerised whilst watching the actors dance because the dance steps are so technical but it also shows the effort put in to achieve the masterpiece on screen.

‘Pyar Ki Yeh Kahani Suno’ from ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd’ (2007)
A romantic song that saw a couple madly in love. Minissha Lamba and Abhay Deol were seen like never before in this film not only as far as their roles were concerned but as dancers. The dance that they did had various forms of ball room dancing which all require precise movements and these stars performed brilliantly.

Deol and Lamba’s efforts paid off because every move they made it was in sync with one another making one think they were professional dancers. Like the spectators around them who are bewildered by the sight of this loving couple, the audience watching at home felt in awe of this dancing couple.

‘Dola Re Dola’ from ‘Devdas’ (2002)
An unforgettable moment in Hindi cinema that till date is remembered by all Bollywood fans. The colour red surrounds the place and in a flash the two dancing queens Madhuri Dixit Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appear, making many hearts skip a beat. It was a wonderful collaboration which many miss because the way Dixit Nene and Rai Bachchan performed was truly beautiful. They are both known to be very good dancers especially in classical dancing. However it wasn’t just their dancing that made this song a hit but also their expressions together that made the song reach such heights.

‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from ‘Dil Se’ (1998)
Although it’s not the first song to be picturised on a moving train somehow it became the most memorable one. While watching it, it seems as though a party is taking place on the train and it is one you wouldn’t mind joining. Shah Rukh Khan can’t be praised enough for what he did in this song from his expressions, to his energy and the fact that this song is taking place on a moving train you get the point. Doing certain dance moves on the ground can be very difficult for some people but to do it on a train hats off to Khan for taking the risk to do such a song. Also Malaika Arora Khan was seen dancing with him and after this song this pairing also became very popular.

‘Muqabala Hum Se Na Karo’ from ‘Prince’ (1969)
A collaboration unlike any seen before with two of the most iconic dancers in Hindi cinema. The two dancing stars were the best at their craft therefore the audience watching knew they were in for a treat. The two actresses were Vyjayanthimala and Helen who during their time in Bollywood were and still are regarded as some of the greatest dancers ever.

Vyjayanthimala is a trained dancer and within this song one can see her immense talents especially in the genre of classical dancing. She was seen doing three forms of classical dance from Bharatnatyam, Kathak and a form of Kathakali. On the other hand Helen was seen doing a mixture of world dances the first one being the 60’s popular dance twisting, shimmy shaking to flamenco and last but not least belly dancing. Helen would appear in films as a dancer mostly with every song being more remarkable than the next.

For these two dancers to be seen blending their different style of dances together was a historic moment for definite.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com hopes that everyone enjoyed this feature regarding International Dance day, wishing that everyone remains safe and stays tuned for more features and updates.
