Information & Broadcasting Ministry to set out new guidelines for digital platforms

Prakash Javadekar, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Union Minister, has announced today that the I & B Ministry will be introducing a set of guidelines for content that is made for digital platforms.

Reported on India Today, this announcement comes after the Ministry revealed they have received several complaints against some web series, such as ‘Tandav’ on Amazon Prime, which already has three FIRs against the makers. While addressing the media, Javadekar said in his statement, “We have received a lot of complaints against some serials available on OTT platforms. Films and series released on OTT platforms and digital newspapers do not come under the purview of the Press Council Act, Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, or Censor Board. We will soon come up with some guidelines for the OTT platforms.”

Earlier this week the Supreme Court denied interim protection from arrest to Ali Abbas Zafar, director of ‘Tandav’ and his team who have had the FIRs filed against them.
