Star Plus attracts record high ratings in India

It’s the season of the Indian Premier League and traditionally this signals bad news for Hindi entertainment channels due to impact on their ratings. However, this time around, the start of the IPL has had no effect on Star Plus, in fact the channel broke its own record by touching highest ever ratings.

According to official data from TAM for Week 16 of 2014, Star Plus touched an all-time high with 791 TVM and a share of 30.47% (last week 748 TVM with 28.11% relative share). The premiere of film ‘Jai Ho’ brought in a huge 43 million GVMs.

ZEE TV was also up slightly to GTVM of 473 and a relative share of 18.22% (last week 464 TVM with 17.44% relative share).

Colors lost viewership this week with 433 GTVM with a relative share of 16.68% (last week 451 TVM with 16.95% relative share).

Star Life Ok remained fourth and consolidated its place with 389 TVM and a relative share of 14.98% (last week 376 TVM and 14.13%).

Sony SAB TV was fifth and had a knock on its ratings due to the cricket. It delivered 266 TVM, with a share of 10.25% (last week 314 TVM and 11.80% relative share).

Sony Entertainment Television Asia also slipped due to the IPL, with 244 TVM and a relative share of 9.40% (last week 308 TVM and 11.57% relative share).

In terms of shows, ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ (14.5) and ‘Jodha Akbar’ (10.5) remained leading shows, while ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ ruled weekends with 8.5 (TVT).
