India ratings: Sony TV leaves Colors & ZEE TV behind

Helped by the new series launch of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, Sony Entertainment Television Asia has surged past Colors and ZEE TV, according to latest ratings by TAM.

Data for Week 34 of 2011, shows the Amitabh Bachchan hosted programme has pushed Sony TV to the number two slot for the first time in ten years.

The channel added 50 GRPs last week when ‘KBC’ launched, taking it’s total to 245 GRPs (last week 195 GRPs). In fact ‘KBC’ opened up with a 5.2 TVR, with an average of 4.5 for the week – the biggest opening show of 2011 so far.

It was a record week for Sony TV generally with ‘KBC’ and it’s Balaji Telefilms show ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ both managing a place in the Top 5 shows in India, whereas Star Plus, Colors and ZEE TV could only manage one show each.

Colors felt a nudge from the ‘KBC’ effect, it slipped to number three with 232 GRPs (last week 236 GRPs).

ZEE TV sat firmly in fourth place for the second consecutive week. It collected 194 GRPs, slightly up from last week’s 190 GRPs.

Star Plus remained the leader of the pack with 297 GRPs (last week 277 GRPs). Its main growth was due to the success of ‘Avatar’, which premiered in Hindi on the channel in India.

In the bottom tier were SAB TV with 128 GRPs (last week 127 GRPs) and Imagine TV with 76 GRPs (last week 71 GRPs).

Amongst the Top 5 shows in India this week were ‘Saathiya’ with 4.8, ‘KBC’ with 4.5, ‘Balika Vadhu’ had 4.4, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ managed 4.3 and ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ garnered a 3.7 TVR.
