Imtiaz Ali describes SRK’s character in ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’

Imtiaz Ali who has already expressed his happiness towards being able to work with Shah Rukh Khan, has now revealed a bit about Khan’s character in ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’.

In Bollywood Hungama, Ali has said that Khan will be essaying the character Harinder Singh Mehra aka Harry who is a tour guide and meets Sejal played by Anushka Sharma, who has lost her engagement ring who then helps her in her quest.

Ali explains that Khan’s character as a guide can be described as a contrast of sorts between their own profession which is quite ironically different from their personal life. “Guides are the ones who take tourists to their desired destinations but oddly, when it comes to what they are trying to seek in their own lives, they are quite unaware of what they want.” Says Ali, citing and example of how guides often look at other side whilst the tourists are enjoying a particular spot, and how they seem disinterested in the place since they are bored of visiting it frequently and how they don’t see beauty in things that the others find beautiful.

But having this double-sided meaning was just what Ali wanted from Khan whilst portraying Harry, and describes it as ‘dramatic cynicism’.

Ali even goes on to compare Harry the guide to various roles played by other actors like Aamir Khan in ‘Fanaa’ (2006) or Dev Anand in ‘Guide’ (1965), and believes that there is much more resemblance to the latter.
