Govinda has turned down the role to play Alia Bhatt’s father in ‘Shandaar’ despite rumours aplenty over the past few weeks.

The film, which also stars Shahid Kapoor, is directed by Vikas Bahl. Apparently, money issues was a reason why Govinda rejected the film.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “We were very keen to get Govinda to play Alia’s father. It’s a role of Alia’s happy-go-lucky father and very important to the script. We even agreed to give Govinda top billing in the credit titles over and above Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. We would have closed the deal. But we came to a dead- end with the money issue.”

The report further adds that Govinda asked for a fee that was equivalent to Kapoor’s remuneration.

Govinda on the other hand said he rejected the film due to the classic “date problems” excuse. Apparently, he wants to spend the next couple of months to promote his home production ‘Abhinay Chakra’.
