Mehdi Hassan passes away at 84

Legendary Ghazal singer, Mehdi Hassan has passed away at the age of 84.

He had been suffering from chest and lung ailments. He died at Karachi’s Agha Khan Hospital. He had been in a serious condition for many days and was on ventilator. Many of his fans gathered at the hospital at hearing of Hassan’s death.

Arif Hassan, the son of the veteran said, “My father passed away at 12:22 PM after a long battle against different ailments.”

Pakistan Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani has expressed grief at the loss of Hassan.

Amongst others, he was renowned for memorable tracks like “Patta Patta, Boota Boota” and “Kab Ke Bichhare”. His last performance in India was in 2000.

The Economic Times said, Hassan was born into a family of traditional musicians at Luna village in India’s Rajasthan state in 1927. His family migrated to Pakistan at the time of Partition in 1947.
