Geo TV suspends four dramas over Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar controversy

Geo TV and 7th Sky Entertainment has announced that they have suspended four dramas over controversy surrounding writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.

The writer was filmed live earlier this week swearing at a rights activist. In an official statement, Geo TV said that a suspension would remain until Qamar apologised.

The full statement from Geo TV said, “Geo believes in exchange of ideas and promoting the culture of Live and Let live (Geo our Jeenay do) we believe that everyone has the right to express their opinions and the culture of healthy debate should be encouraged. He [Qamar] not only used abusive language against a woman but also refused to accept his mistake and apologise for it.”

It is said that the writer appeared on a discussion show on TV with activist Marvi Sirmed. The debate led to a heated exchange over slogans — “mera jism, meri marzi,” or my body, my choice — championed by those who are organising an event, according to Geo News.

Qamar has also written shows for other channels and is involved in a film starring Mehwish Hayat and Humayun Saeed.
