GOWposter

Viacom 18 Pictures and along with director extraordinaire, Anurag Kashyap, have teamed up for ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ set against the backdrop of rural coal communities in Jharkand, India. It isthe first commercial filmto be featured at the Directors Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

The plot of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ has revenge at its core and stars Manoj Bajpai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Richa Chadda. The story is to be told in two separate parts in two individual films. It is said to be of a similar genre to mainstream hitting films such as 2008’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ which won many awards across the spectrum.

Viacom 18 Pictures and the Cannes Film Festival will be holding media and trade screenings as well as events through the week including a cocktail at the NFDC India Pavilion. There is also expected to be a debate which will be centred on Bollywood’s changing place within Indian cinema.
