The recent Salman Khan ‘rape-comment’ controversy has been making headlines for many days now. The superstar-actor has been slammed by many for insensitive comments made during an interview where he was promoting his upcoming film ‘Sultan’. Actress Freida Pinto was recently asked to comment on the controversy.

According to Deccan Chronicle, Pinto, who was seen making her debut at the IIFA Awards this year, had the following to say on the same, “It is very important to be responsible in what you say…But then that responsibility also comes with consequences so you have to be strong enough and bold enough to say I am sorry when you are wrong and stand by your words when you are right. I feel like there is a lot of responsibility.”

Pinto refrained from involving herself in the debate, however she understood that, sometimes what is said might not be “negative but it may be unconventional.”

Although Khan’s father, Salim Khan, has apologised on his son’s behalf for the comments made, Salman himself has stated that perhaps the less he spoke the better it is. While most members of the fraternity have chosen to remain silent on the issue, Kangna Ranaut, Anurag Kashyap and singer Sona Mohapatra have openly voiced their displeasure.

Pinto will be honoured with the ‘International Icon’ accolade at the IIFA award ceremony currently being held in Madrid.
