Farah Khan embraces ‘typical’ tag given to her films

SLAM - The Tour at airport

Proving herself a great film maker, Farah Khan’s films have often been titled as ‘typical’ Bollywood movies. However, instead of taking this as an insult, Khan believes this is the element that makes her films a success.

Always casting big names, with storyline that include big dance numbers, the director makes it clear that her films always represent a sense of class. “I make aesthetic movies which are grand and with some of the biggest stars. It’s not fair to run them down. I don’t make tacky films,” Hindustan Times reported the film maker stating.

Talking of appealing to a wider audience, she went on to say, “I like to entertain all kinds of audiences with my films. Let me tell you, it is very difficult for a filmmaker to have a story which runs well and appeals to the B-class audience in India as well as to viewers in Britain and the US.”

Being a part of the industry as a choreographer before becoming a director, has definitely worked in Khan’s favour. In the attempt of producing a great film, she goes on to explain how all her films come with a twist. “Several films on reincarnation were done in the past, but I added a retro twist to ‘Om Shanti Om’ (2007)…so there will always be a twist. A dance film has been done to death, but here in ‘Happy New Year’, the twist is in the fact that a group of worst dancers come together to participate in a dance competition and we’ve mixed it with a heist.”

‘Happy New Year’ will be Khan’s big release this year, with a promising star cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah and Boman Irani. It releases on 24th October.
