Deepika Padukone to essay role of Saina Nehwal?

Biopics are very much the order of the day. As BizAsia reported just two days ago that Vidya Bala may well be seen as India’s first female doctor on the big screen, another piece of interesting news puts Deepika Padukone in the limelight as it emerged that she is being considered to play Saina Nehwal in a film.

It is thought that Mahesh Bhatt is he man behind the idea and he confirmed this to TOI, “There is a very honest intention to contract a meaningful document which captures the essence and resilience of Saina’s life. However, the project is in its nascent stage now. It has to be given a green light and be commissioned. Once it is done, I am sure it will come out very well”.

When Nehwal herself was quizzed recently, she was the one who put Padukone’s name in the mix, “She knows badminton quite well. Apart from the strokes and bends, she is aware of all the actions in the game. And since it will be a film based on a sportsperson’s life, it wouldn’t be right to go with flaws in strokes and patterns. I have seen her play, and she is really good at it”.

One wonders whether the idea will reach fruition some time soon.
